Grand Valley Rural Power Lines, Inc., (Grand Valley Power) a Colorado Corporation, came into existence on August 12, 1936, and was the first rural electric cooperative organized in Colorado. It was created by a group of rural people in the lower Grand Valley who had been unable to secure electric service from existing electric utilities, either because of its unavailability or because of the high construction costs to the individual user.

Community Electric Cooperative (CEC) was built by and belongs to the diverse communities and consumer-members we serve. We are founded on seven principles that set us apart from other businesses. Concern for community and the open, democratic structure of co-ops are two of these core principles. With these foundational concepts in mind, we strive to serve our communities and work to enhance quality of life for our consumer-members.

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a consumer-owned utility providing reliable electric service to more than 22,100 consumers. As a cooperative, Valley is owned by the people it serves. These consumer-owners are members of the cooperative. They are represented by a board of directors, chosen from and elected by the membership. Being a not-for-profit business, the cooperative's goal is to offer its members dependable electric service at the lowest possible cost. To help reach this goal, the co-op employs 58 local residents.
