- 1 teaspoon onion powder

- Spray the insert of the slow cooker and place chicken breasts inside.
- In a small bowl whisk together garlic powder, onion powder, salt, root beer, and bbq sauce until combined. Pour over the chicken. Cover with the lid and cook on LOW heat for 8 hours.
- When cook time is done, shred chicken with two forks and let it stay in the slow cooker (in the juices to stay moist) until ready to serve.
- * This chicken does really on the warm setting too so if you're not eating right away just change the setting to warm and it will be ready when you are.
- Serve shredded chicken, with a slotted spoon or tongs, on buns or rolls.

- 2 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (i used sweet baby rays)
- 1 cup root beer (I used A&W)
- Minced dried onion or a medium chopped onion
How to cook:
- Place chicken breasts in slow cooker and season with salt and pepper.
- Pour the barbecue sauce over the chicken and then the root beer; spread around.
- Sprinkle a little minced dried onion/or chopped onion on top if desired.
- Cover and cook on High heat setting 2-3 hours until chicken is tender.
- Shred with 2 forks and serve on rice, mashed potatoes or in buns.

- Pulled Chicken
- Preheat grill.
- Heat grill to 400°F.
- Prepare rub.
- Combine the ingredients for the rub in a small bowl and set aside.
- Season chicken.
- Drizzle chicken with olive oil and generously season both sides with the rub. Chill until ready to grill or make immediately.
- Cook chicken.
- Place chicken on the prepared grill and grill over direct heat until cooked through, flipping once or twice. Keep the lid closed while grilling. Juices should run clear when done.
- Shred chicken.
- Let chicken cool for a few minutes and then shred the chicken.
- Root Beer BBQ Sauce
- Sauté onion.
- Meanwhile, or even before cooking the chicken, prepare the barbecue sauce. Heat olive oil in a 3 quart saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook, stirring frequently, until soft and translucent.
- Add seasonings.
- Stir in chili powder, garlic powder and cayenne pepper.
- Add remaining ingredients.
- Pour in root beer and stir to combine.Stir in ketchup, lemon juice and molasses.
- Simmer sauce.
- Bring sauce to a boil over medium-high heat and then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 15 minutes or until sauce has thickened.
- Combine sauce and chicken.
- Add the pulled chicken to the barbecue sauce and stir to combine.
- Assemble sandwiches.
- Top toasted buns with chicken mixture and coleslaw if you like.
