Iris Kramer studied music, jazz and pop music, at Hamburg University of Music and Drama as well as pedagogy and psychology at Hamburg University. In 1984, she co-founded the jazz orchestra Reichlich Weiblich (Pretty Feminine) and acted as their composer. Iris Kramer graduated with the publication of her research paper on Women in Jazz. In 1990, she founded the female formation called so what? , in 1999 the band Blue Brasil. For ten years she worked as theatre musician at Hamburg's Thalia Theatre and Schmidt's Tivoli.

Polly showed them the way to wrap their various musical influences into a digital demo tape in early 2018. At the same time they changed the band name to «Vélez» - inspired by the beautiful but tragic figure of Old Hollywood, Maria Guadeloupe Villalobos Vélez.
